Looking for lower rates? Taking an off-road safety course is often a simple but effective way of lowering your ATV or UTV insurance premium.

Off-Road Vehicle (ORV) Safety courses are offered through many states' outdoor recreation departments, and they typically cover everything from proper gear and trail etiquette to defensive driving. While many states require ATV, UTV or other ORV operators under 16 to get an ORV Safety Certification, taking a course over the age of 16 could come with policy discounts.

An ORV Safety certification distinguishes you as an informed driver - helping lower the risk associated with your recreational activities. Many insurers, including Foremost®, give that education back to you in the form of savings off your premium.

While every course is unique and may not offer savings, getting ORV Safety certified offers many other benefits and we'd encourage all riders who hit the trails to get trained. Here's how:

  1. Start by checking with your insurance agent to confirm your provider offers a discount for off-road safety training and which courses they recognize. This will help with step two.
  2. Take a recognized course. Sign up for an insurance provider-approved off-road safety course. Many courses are available online, so you may not even have to leave the comfort of your own home to learn and save! Some well-known providers are (ATV Safety Institute) and the Motorcycle Safety Foundation.
  3. Provide proof of completion. After completing a safety course, you'll get a certificate from your course provider. Send this to your Agent as proof.
  4. Hit the trails!
